Background
The clinical learning environment (CLE) is where students in health professions gain practical experience during their clinical placements as part of their education. The attainment of learning objectives and the growth of students' professional behaviors are influenced by the CLE. This study aimed to determine the undergraduate student’s perception towards their clinical learning environment.
Methods
This cross-sectional study was conducted on 204 final-year students of five colleges at Rehman Medical Institute through convenience sampling. Informed consent was taken, and data was collected through UCEEM questionnaire comprising of 26 questions and based on Likert scale. Frequency and percentage were calculated for categorical data and Mean was calculated for numerical data. Chi square test was used to find the association among variables.
The response rate was 100% out of which 56.4% females and 43.6% males with a mean age of 23 ± 1.7. The mean total UCEEM score was 3.35, which showed that CLE needs particular attention. indicating a moderately positive perception of the clinical learning environment. The highest-rated domain was "Opportunities to Learn and Quality of Supervision" (mean: 3.39), while the lowest-rated domain was "Equal Treatment and Clarity of Role" (mean: 3.08). Medical students reported the most favorable perceptions.
The overall clinical learning environment at Rehman Medical Institute is perceived moderately positively, significant gaps exist in inclusivity, role definition, and clinical preparedness, especially among non-medical students. Targeted efforts to improve orientation, interprofessional collaboration, and discipline-specific support are recommended to enhance the clinical training experience for all undergraduate healthcare students.
